VOX movie theatres create a movie experience which extends beyond the movie itself. The food court, the theatre seating, the online portal, the mobile apps, the internet ticket bookings, loyalty programs and all … they all add up to the movie experience.
VOX offers hospitality which creates a spellbinding experience
If you haven’t had the ZwZ experience yet, you gotta go and have some today. My experience relates to the ZwZ on the Sheikh Zayed Road near the first interchange, between the Dubai Mall and Financial Centre metro station. I had my first ZwZ experience in 2009 and ever since it has always been a pleasure going there.
Extremely helpful staff members who gave us plenty of good advice and recommendations. In no restaurant have I been visited by the Restaurant Manager; here he came in twice. First in the beginning and then at the end too asking about our experience.
They have a pretty impressive menu with plenty of interesting and exotic options. You will need several visits to explore their offerings. ZwZ offers a very good ambience to spend a nice evening with friends or family.
I tried their Vegetarian Pizza in the recent visit and it was a whole new pizza experience for me. A Lebanese variant of the Italian Pizza; a pizza with a twist. Their K-Tiramisu as well as the Cheesecake was unlike anything that I had ever had before.
I have only been to the ZwZ next to First Interchane on SZR but they have restaurants at other locations too … Mall Of Emirate, Dubai Festival City, Mirdiff, Jumeira Beach Residence, The Dubai Mall and the Meadows (Enoc Station).
A great eating experience but not a very economical one nor it is extremely pricey.
Parking can be a bit of a challenge though since it is located at the first interchange of SZR but the bit of effort for parking is worth the ZwZ experience.
This is my wife's review of this place. She had been there a 2 months ago and became an instant fan of their hospitality. She has alrady visited them one more time and has already told me about her booking next mnonth. The review is based on what she has told me. (I am already tempted to visit this place and then next month I can write a review in my own words :))
I never ever thought that a salon/spa experience can be actually so soothing and memorable. I visited Spaces Salon & Spa at Deira City Centre last month and was speechless the moment I entered it. I have practically not seen a salon with such an ambience which makes u feel good, pleased and relaxed, all at the same time, the moment you enter it. It was simply awesome, mind blowing & rocking.
The treatment I had taken were Facial, Pedicure, Threading & Waxing. Having been to several different salons/spas in Mumbai as well as Dubai; I can confidently say that my experience at spaces was absolutely one of the best. The staff is very professional and skilled. They were pretty cooperative and helping (with their suggestions and tips).
I will take this opportunity to thank the staff members, who gave me the services. They are equally responsible for making my visit a memorable one. They made me feel special and I left the salon with a very good feeling. The staff was extremely professional. They use top of the class branded products and equipments for the various treatments.
The Spaces spa and Salon located at Deira City Centre has separate men and women sections on the different levels of ICONIC store. I am not sure about the other Spaces locations though.
Convenient location. World Class treatment. Certified by my wife already who has visited it twice already and wants to go there pretty regularly (at least once a month).
What more does one want.
Malls in Dubai are not just for Shopping but if you are a tourist, you should consider some malls as tourist attractions too. The Ibn Batuta Mall is not just a tourist attraction; it is actually 7 tourist attractions built in one place.
It is the world’s largest themed shopping mall. The Ibn Batuta Mall is an absolutely beautifully stunning mall. It is designed to showcase the travels of the famous Arabic explorer Ibn Battuta across different countries; The mall is divided into 6 zones each reflecting a country (China, India, Persia, Egypt, Tunisia and Andalusia). The mall doesn’t have multiple floors, its one single ground floor spread across a length of 1.3 kilometer (just imagine!!)
As you walk across this mall, you feel like having walked through 7 different malls; each with its own unique décor and style. Several exhibits of historical significance are laid out in different parts of the mall giving it a museum kind of feel. Where in the world can u have a museum experience in a mall.
There are over 50 restaurants and food outlets along with 21 cinema screens including UAE’s only IMAX theatre. And not to forget the huge Ship/boat kept inside the mall in front of the movie theatre located in the China region of the mall
An added attraction is the Hot Air Balloon ride you can take just outside the mall. But do check on it before you go since they don’t really operate round the year. Last time I checked, they were closed for summer.
The interiors of the China court depicts typical Chinese interior elements and motifs like that of dragons etc. and adds to the heritage of Chinese architecture, tradition and culture. The china court features a mock up of an old style Chinese sail ship. The India Court showcases cultural elements of the Indian architectural style. It has a modern full-size working reproduction of an Elephant Clock, an Islamic invention consisting of a water-powered clock in the form of an elephant. And so on ... Spend a day at Ibn Batuta Mall !
Malls in Dubai are not just for Shopping but if you are a tourist, you should consider some malls as tourist attractions too. Wafi Mall is something you visit as a tourist. (Of course you can shop too). The mall built with an Egyptian theme with pyramids, pharaohs and Egyptian designs all over the mall. The Egyptian architecture (columns of the ancient temples, glass pyramids, statues of anubis and pharaohs, wall carvings etc) provide plenty of photo-opportunities to tourists who seem to be clicking away in every corner and centre of the mall.
And of course, how can I forget to write about something I haven’t seen at any other place in the world. A vending machine which can be used to BUY GOLD. Yes … you read it right. I have personally not seen this anywhere in the world.
All through the year (till August at least) they had a Light & Sound Show which was an amazing spectacle to watch. The 10 minute show was conducted in the central courtyard with imagery projected on the walls of the mall. It is an immersive show where the imagery is not just in front of you but all around you. It’s truly a once in a life time thing to see.
An absolutely ‘not to miss’ place is the ‘Khan Murjan Souq’ … the underground old souq style market with more than 150 shops will transport you back in time and give you an opportunity to shop for authentic exotic traditional items. It offers a crowd-less calm and serene shopping ambience. No hustle bustle of a crowded mall in here.
It goes without saying that a mall of this kind will also have a equally good Food Court with all the regular food joints but I should also mention here that there are some really good restaurants with interesting themes and views.
In case you are thinking about car parking; no worries. It has a covered parking of over 1000 cars and also open parking to add to the numbers.
If you want to plan an exotic Egyptian evening in the middle of Dubai, WAFI mall is the place to consider. Check out at www.wafi.com
It was an interesting dinner experience at Asha’s. It is located in the WAFI mall complex at Pyramids which houses several restaurants. This one promised to give Indian culinary options along with the hope of ‘jain’ food (vegetarian food without the use of onions, garlic, potato etc) so it became a singular choice where my wife could find something to eat. We requested for the special preparation and the staff obliged by readily accepting the variations. The food was good (not great though) and the ambience was awesome.
Since it is located in the mall complex, reaching this place is not a problem and parking is also a convenience. Good Food, great ambience and the beautiful Wafi mall as a neighbor – this can become a full evening program.
We ordered regular vegetables and breads. They were good. Nothing out of this world but pretty decent. Tasty and good. Nothing worth remembering though. One word though, DO NOT go to this restaurant on weekends without a advance booking or you might have to wait for an hour or even more.
In the end, we ordered the platter of Indian sweets which had four desserts –mango kulfi (type of mango flavored ice-cream), Gaajar halwa (carrot based desert), gulab jamun (dough balls in syrup) and ras malai (sweet soft cheese soaked in milk with saffron touch). The review is mixed. The Gaajar Halwa was not up to the mark (it was actually bad, seemed like the frozen kind) nor was the Gulab Jamun out of this world (good but not great, missed the touch of gulab/rose in it). On the other hand, Ras-malai and Mango Kulfi were really really satisfying.
One interesting observation.
I had expected to hear Indian songs sung only by Asha Bhosle in the restaurant but was surprised to hear some other songs too.
Although the food experience wasn’t very great for me but I have heard a lot of good things from a lot of people for this restaurant so I will give this place another shot and then form a permanent opinion. For now, it is open for me. Also
Dubai Bowling Center spans over 7,000 Sq. meters and has 24 professional variety bowling lanes out of which eight lanes can be furnished with bumpers upon request. The center has a 25000 sq. ft. gaming arcade. Facilities also include Fiesta Zone café restaurant and a party fun room for birthdays. Not to forget that it also houses the Hercules Fitness Centre / Gymnasium.
Plenty of parking space around and easy to reach location (near the second interchange off the Shaikh Zyed Road, Opposite to Safa Park) is a life saver since any of these can dampen an evening’s fun factor. The center provides visitors with 150 underground parking stalls and there is some open parking space outside the Bowling centre too.
An evening spent at the Dubai Bowling Centre with family and/or friends can become a memorable one. I went to DBC with a friend and his family which included 2 kids. One Round of Bowling followed by an hour in the Action Zone with plenty of games for both kids and adults. Time just flew by.
They have good prices/rates which are per game as well as per hour (allowing 4 people). And yes, they also have a one-of-its-kind bowling shop
Typical operation hours are from 10 AM to 12 Midnight … with hours extended to 1.30 – 2 AM on weekends. This is important since once you enter … time flies and you won’t even realize the evening is over.
Check them out at http://www.bowlingdubai.com/
And yes … don’t confuse this place with the other Dubai International Bowling Centre near Al Mamzar.
One of the finest vegetarian restaurants around here. They even serve Jain food (no onion, no garlic etc) .. in fact they are one of those very few who actually understand the meaning of Jain Food.
The food is very tasty and the ambience is good. This is perfect place for good delicious vegetarian food and if you are looking for Jain Food options, this is probably the best place around.
If you like Parathas (a variety of the Indian Flat bread which is stuffed with vegetables, spices etc) ... You will begin to love it after your visit to Paratha King. Offering more than a 100 varieties of stuffed parathas it is a real treat. I have kept a copy of the menu and have already tried more than 20 different varieties although i often keep ordering my favorites.
The stuffing is good and you really get to taste it unlike some other restaurants serving stuffed parathas where you keep searching for the stuffing and its taste.
I would really receommend visiting this small but awesome place.
Do note: Its a pure vegetarian outlet !
A restaurant which you can easily miss if you are casually walking around on Bank Street simply bcos it is not visible from hte main road. It is tucked inside The Atrium Centre on Khalid Bin Al Waleed Road (Bank Street).. opposite Four Point by Sheraton.
The restaurant has really delicious every day food that you could actually have very often. When I used to live around Bank Street, I was a regular to this restaurant eating here at least 3-5 times every week. Even now, whenever I am around Bank Street and hunger strikes, GS is the place I look forward to.
Nothing exotic or special here. Just plain good Indian food.
WILD PEETA is a refreshing new way of looking at the Shawarma ... in their own words it is a 'Gourmet Shawarma Sandwich'. Wild Peeta started in 2009 and I discovered it through Twitter. The location was then near WAFI and now hey have moved to DWTC and Diera City Centre. You just have to visit them once and you will love them for doing what they have done to the Shawarma. From the promise of 'fresh' regional vegetables & condiments to their home made sauces and peeta breads ... and the overall promise of a superb treat for your tastebuds ... Wild Peeta fulfills their promise. I would suggest you drop in once and check them out. I cant write enough.
I came across Just Falafel in Bur Dubai in January this year and being a Falafel fan, just went in to sample. One look at their menu and I knew they had filled in a space. Tried some and fell in love with them. Since then, JF has been a regular choice. The variety which they offer on their menu is simply amazing and I am pretty sure absolutely NO ONE offers falafels in the variety they do. Mind you, I have never seen an Indian Falafel till day except at JF. They offer Lebanese, Greek, Emirati, Italian, Mexican, Japanese and even American Falafel variants.
Of these, my personal favorite is the Indian variant (of course) and the Italian one. Both are pretty awesome. And did I forget to mention it … all the varieties of falafel are absolutely Vegetarian. I highly reccommend Just Falafel to all .... If you like Falafel ... You will love JF !!
The experience at SKI DUBAI was simply an awesome one. The temperatures outside were touching 45 degree celcius and here I was in minus 6 degreed. It was amazing to be in such an atmosphere ... literally in the middle of the desert... The entire experience was very nice.
Very thoughtful of them to have a small warming blower machine for people to clear their fogged spectacles on stepping out of the cold zone.
I would have expected an Ice Restaurant in there too .. with furniture as well as crockery made of ice and special dishes being served !!
Have been to MoE several times ... its pretty awesome place. The experience at SKI DUBAI with temperatures outside touching 45 degree celcius was amazing ... I have been to MoE during different times of the year with different events happening. Always a beautiful experience.
I have been a Falafel sandwich fan ever since I first came to Dubai in 2008. But my entire perception of te humble Falafel sandwich changed when I had one at Al Safadi. One of the best Falafel sandwiches in town. I have had their Falafel on several occasions during my time in Dubai during 2009. I get to go to SZR infrequently now but whenever I do and I am around Al Safadi, I am sure to grab a Falafel sndwich at Al Safadi
I have been a Falafel sandwich fan ever since I first came to Dubai in 2008. But my entire perception of te humble Falafel sandwich changed when I had one at Al Safadi. One of the best Falafel sandwiches in town... untill I discover some other place.
I have never been a fan of the Margherita Pizza. Afterall it is just cheese and bread. BUT Pizza Express changed that opinion of mine. I had a chance to have the Margherita Pizza at Pizza Express and realised for the first time that this humble pizza flavor could be so awesomely tasty. Hats off to Pizza Express .. for making excellent Pizzas and making me change my perception of the Margherita Pizza !!
Since then I have been there twice and had the same thing:) GUess next time, I will try something else. I am aassuming that if they can make the Margherita Pizza wonderful, the other flavors will be pretty awesome,
A really wide variety of dates at good prices makes Lulu a good place to visit for dates. The helpful person beyond the counter helped me select the dates and i got to taste a couple of different varietis before buying the one I liked ... really nice place to buy dates !
Talking of Iftar, Sheraton provides a very interesting option. They have set up a Ramadan tent on the beach to replicate the desert setting. A wide selection of Arabic and international dishes as well as live cooking stations for manakeesh, naan, pasta and tempura provide a wide variety to the iftar menu. On the beach next to the main tent there is a Bedouin tent serving Arabic coffee and the unique addition to the experience is free camel rides for all. Now that really takes the cake .. err .. date!
As far as decorations are concerned ,... most malls have put up decorations. The Mall of Emirates has put up 100's of stars in their atrium which really made a difference to the entire ambience of the mall. You just have to step in and u feel the difference. You feel you are visiting the mall for the first time. Its really really good and a must see for everyone (unless u have already seen something like this somewhere else or at MoE itself eralier)
A wide variety of dates are available at Carrefour. The prices are good with a couple of good offers that have been there on dates recently. I buy and eat dates from Carrefour round the year. Keep trying different varieties.
