ADMA-OPCO (an offshore gas and oil company) has been hosting an Iftar tent with the charity for some years now. It is situated outside their head office on 3rd Street in Abu Dhabi, around 300 labourers come there every night to have and Iftar meal at no cost with a biryani dinner, a few traditional dishes and fruits, nuts and of course dates! They are so generous that even if the likes of me turned up they would not turn me away. If or when food runs out, the company restaurant usually steps in with more meals which is so charitable of them. They also organises a few other Iftars around town with themed evenings, fun activities and entertainment for the whole family, these are not free but are very reasonable and for a very good cause, but they usually invite orphans from orphanages around Abu Dhabi and offer dinner and to take part in kid’s games, quizzes and raffles. The orphans along with other children are also given gift bags with books, t-shirts and caps, money vouchers and more which is what Ramadan is all about. It is companies like these that deserve to be in the spot light, not big hotels which you pay a premium for.
